How can I Become a Loss Mitigation Consultant?

I am interested in learning more about being a Loss Mitigation Consultant which helps individuals from going into foreclosure. People with upside down mortgage can also benefit. My parents' home went into foreclosure early on this year and we found out about loss mitigation later, after we were foreclosed on. We also had an upside down mortgage. Needless to say that I wish that I had known about loss mitigation before. So, maybe I could have helped my mom and dad, even if just a little bit. So, now I am wondering if anyone had any suggestion to where I should start looking or if anyone is in this career right now. I from North Carolina, USA. Thanks.

What Does Loss Mitigation Mean?

I was wondering if anyone knew exactly what loss mitigation is. Basically, what does it mean to do a Loss Mitigation for your mortgage??? Thanks for any help.
