Question: english grammatical question...(1)?

Fitch forecasts total losses for the $1.4 trillion (700 billion pound) subprime mortgage market of around $400 billion, of which 50 percent RESIDE within the banking sector and the remainder among financial guarantors, insurers, asset managers and hedge funds.

why reside not resides? is that because "50 percent" is taken as plurality?

Answer: it's "resides." you don't have to assume that everything you read is grammatically correct. There's typos EVERYWHERE. I'm an editor, I see it A LOT
