Question: Should I give my 15 year old a Christmas present if he's been extremely disrespectful?
My 15 year old son said, "All I want for Xmas and my birthday (a week apart) is $200.00." I am a single mother of two, mortgaging a home on unemployment, and only receive $150.00 a month in child support for 1 child. I wouldn't hesitate to give him what he's asked for, but this year he has been so disrespectful that I really feel he doesn't deserve it. What would you do?
Answer: Honestly I would. My son had about a yr and a half that he was horrible...just horrible. I considered not giving him as much at christmas but then really thought about it and decided that was a bad idea. I know that as a kid if my parents had used my bday or christmas as times to punish me I would've just gotten hurt and upset and would've acted worse. So as much as it aggravated me I still went and did the same things for him as always and slowly but surely he's gotten better. But don't give him $200 if you can't afford it. No one should put themselves in a bind over christmas gifts. Just do what you can and remember that even though he's being tough to deal with you still love him and bday and christmas gifts are given out of love...not b/c you "deserve" it.
